Craigentinny Castle Community Consultation

Shaping the future of our community — together.

The Ripple Project, together with the Craigentinny Community Centre Management Committee, is leading a year-long community consultation to explore the future of Craigentinny Castle and its surrounding site. Working alongside local residents, groups, and partners, we’re shaping a shared vision for how this cherished landmark can best serve our community for years to come.

Craigentinny Castle has stood at the heart of our community for generations. Now, as the City of Edinburgh Council reviews community centres across the city, there’s an exciting opportunity for local people to help shape the castle’s future.

This consultation is about listening. We want to understand what matters most to local people; what’s working well, what’s missing, and what could make Craigentinny Castle a vibrant, inclusive space for everyone.

Together, we’ll:

  • Gather community views, ideas, and concerns

  • Explore heritage sensitive and sustainable options for the site

  • Develop a shared vision for the castle’s future use

  • Present community driven recommendations

Have your say:

This is your community, your castle, and your chance to shape its future.

Update – January 2026

We’re delighted to share an update on the Craigentinny Castle Community Consultation and our ambitious, year-long project exploring the future of the Castle and the surrounding area.

The consultation is being led by The Ripple Project, working alongside the Craigentinny Community Centre Management Committee, local residents, community groups and partners to help shape a shared vision for how this much loved landmark could serve our community in the years ahead.

What’s been happening so far

We’ve continued to gather people’s ideas through a mix of scheduled events and informal one-to-one conversations, and this will continue into next year.

Alongside this, we’ve been planning a series of themed activity weeks, taking place monthly at the Castle from February to June 2026:

·         February – Wellbeing (16–21 February)

·         March – Creativity (16–21 March)

·         April – Togetherness (13–18 April)

·         May – Community Wealth Building (18–23 May)

·         June – Celebration & Reflection (Saturday 13 June)

Learning from others – our visit to Newcastle

A highlight this month was a visit to Newcastle, where we explored two projects showing how communities have worked with heritage buildings to create vibrant, welcoming spaces. These insights are already shaping our thinking as we design the themed weeks for next year.
